dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractBu araştırmada Uşakizade ailesinin Uşak’ta başlayan girişimciliklerini nasıl devam ettirdikleri ve bunun sonucunda İzmir’e taşındıktan sonra yaptırdıkları Uşakizade Köşkü’nün günümüze kadar olan tarihi ve kazandığı eğitim ve müze kimlikleri anlatılmaktadır. Köşkün müzesinin kurucu müdürlüğünü yapan Ahmet Gürel ile yapılan röportaj ve çeşitli yazılı belgeler kaynak alınarak Uşakizade ailesinin, İzmir ve Türkiye tarihi açısından önemine değinilmiş, köşkün günümüze kadar olan tarihi anlatılmıştır. Uşakizade ailesi, Türk şirketlerinin halıcılık yapmadığı bir dönemde rakipleri arasında kendini gösterebilmiş ve daha sonrasında hem çeşitli yatırımlar ile daha da zenginleşmiş, hem de aile üyelerinin devlette görev aldığı zamanlarda çeşitli işletmeleri Türkleştirerek Türkiye ekonomisine katkıda bulunmuşlardır. Köşk İzmir’de önemli bir yapı olmakla beraber Atatürk’ün İzmir'de kaldığı vakitlerde askeri karargâh olarak kullanılmıştır ve günümüzde müze olarak hizmet etmeye devam etmektedir.en_US
dc.description.abstractIn this research, how the Usakizade family continued their entrepreneurship that started in Usak and as a result, the history of the Usakizade Mansion that they built after moving to Izmir and the education and museum identities that the mansion have acquired so far are explained. An interview with the founding director of the mansion’s museum, Ahmet Gurel, and various written documents are taken as sources and the importance of the Usakizade family in terms of the history of Turkey is mentioned, the history of the mansion until today is described. Usakizade family, at a time when Turkish companies were not carpet-making, were able to show themselves among their competitors, and then became even richer with various investments. During the period when family members served in the state, they contributed to the Turkish economy by Turkifying various businesses. This mansion is an important building in Izmir, was used as a military headquarters during Ataturk's stay in Izmir and continues to serve as a museum today.en_US
