Abstract

This article presents a critical reflection on the present and future sustainable housing construction in Vietnam at the beginning of XXI century. The work is the result of international research, creative achievements of the young Vietnamese architects, and my experience during my lecturing work at Tôn Đức Thắng and Văn Lang University in Hồ Chí Minh City, Vietnam, period (2014-2016). Vietnam, as well as key countries of Southeast Asia, due to rapid industrialization and economic growth, the last two decades is faced with many problems such as: a large increase in urban population, enormous environmental pollution and poor housing conditions. The impossibility of solving these problems imposes new innovative and fast solutions primarily in the field of education, urban planning, housing architecture, as well as in the field of design, use of sustainable materials in construction and rational use of energy. Through examples and analysis of recent developments in the Vietnamese architecture, as well as other countries, this article wants to show importance of studying of new sources of knowledge, the Asian experience in the construction and opening of the new focuses in a sustainable architecture.
