dc.description.abstract | Turkey has a distinguished culture, however, one must remember that many different races, religions, and cultures existed together under one flag during the Ottoman Empire. These people from different backgrounds stayed in Turkey after the end of the Ottoman Empire. They managed to take part in and affect both the cultural and trading changes in the region. One such important group of people, called the Levantine family, contains many different families who have come to Turkey from the European region. This paper focuses on one of the most influential members of the Levantine family, the Catoni family and its successors, and their impact on the developing Turkish region.
