dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractHalime Güner 10 Şubat 1956 tarihinde İzmir Foça’nın Çakmaklı köyünde dünyaya gelmiştir. Çocukluğunda babasının annesine şiddet göstermesi ve babasının ailesiyle ilgilenmemesi onda haksızlığa karşı bir mücadele isteği uyandırmıştır. Gençliğinde İstanbul Kız Lisesinde parasız yatılı okuduğu için statü farkının getirdiği eşitsizliklere maruz kalmıştır. İstanbul Kız Lisesindeki arkadaşlarıyla feminizmle ilgili fikir alışverişleri yapmışlardır. 1980 darbesi, 1975 Dünya Kadın On Yılı Konferansı, 1995 Pekin Dünya Kadın Konferansı gibi olaylarla ve etkinliklerle birlikte feminizmle tanışmış ve örgüt arayışına girmiştir. Bu örgüt arayışının sonucu olarak 1996 yılında Uçan Süpürge Vakfı’nı kurmuştur. Uçan Süpürge Vakfı kurulduğu yıldan itibaren yirmi beş yıldır Uçan Süpürge Uluslararası Kadın Filmleri Festivali düzenlemektedir. Halime Güner, yaptığı ve gerçekleştirdiği projeler sonucunda Kanada İnsan Hakları Ödülü’ne layık görülmüştür.en_US
dc.description.abstractHalime Güner was born on February 10, 1956, in the Çakmaklı village of İzmir Foça. During her childhood, her father's violence against her mother and disinterest in her family, encouraged her to fight against inequality. In her youth, she was exposed to inequalities brought about by the difference in status, as she was a boarding student with a scholarship at İstanbul Girl’s Highschool. She exchanged ideas about feminism with her friends during her education. With events such as the 1980 Coup, the 1975 World Women's Decade Conference, and the 1995 Beijing World Women's Conference, she met feminism and sought an organization. She is one the founders of the Flying Broom Foundation which was established in 1996 to help her sought for an organization. The Flying Broom Foundation has been organizing the Flying Broom International Women's Film Festival for twenty-five years since its establishment. Halime Güner has been awarded the Canadian Human Rights Award as a result of the projects she has done.en_US
