dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractTürkiye'nin ilk anarşist dergisi olan Kara dergisi, 1986 yılının Ekim ayında İstanbul’da kendini “liberter” olarak adlandıran bir grup anarşist tarafından kurulmuştur. Türkiye’de Osmanlı’dan beri var olduğu belirtilen ancak 12 Eylül darbesine kadar kendini gösteremeyen anarşizm, Kara ile birlikte tanınır olmaya başlamıştır. Yaklaşık bir yıllık bir sürede on iki sayı olarak yayınlanan Kara, maddi sıkıntılar ve ekip içerisindeki çatışmalar dolayısıyla yayın hayatına son vermiş olsa da Türkiye’de daha önce bir dergi platformunda desteklenmemiş olan LGBT, ekoloji gibi davaları destekleyerek yeni tartışma alanları açan bir dergi olmuştur. Bunun sonrasında gerek yayılan anarşizmden gerek onu eleştirmek isteyenlerden dolayı Ateş Hırsızı ve Efendisiz’in örnek gösterilebileceği farklı dergilerin kuruluşuna da öncülük etmiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe first anarchist magazine of Turkey, Kara, was established in Istanbul, in October 1986 by a group of anarchists who named themselves “libertarians”. Although anarchism had been present in Turkey since the Ottoman Empire, its presence had not been known briefly until Kara, after the coup d’état of September 12th. Kara had to take a break from publishing due to financial difficulties and internal conflicts, after publishing twelve issues in around one year. Nevertheless, it supported causes such as LGBT, and ecology which had not been supported in a magazine before, allowing these subjects to be discussed more freely in the country. Kara further blazed the trail for other magazines such as Efendisiz and Ateş Hırsızı with the spreading of anarchism and the will to criticize Kara.en_US
