dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractAtatürk; bir milletin,varlığını sürdürebilmesi için sahip olması gereken en önemli değerin tarih bilgisi ve bilinci olduğunu savundu. Bu nedenle, Türk tarihinin objektif incelenmesine, doğru kaydedilmesine ve toplumda tarih bilincinin oluşmasına öncelik verip bu uğurda birçok çalışmaya imza attı. Neredeyse her konuşmasında tarihe verdiği önemden bahsetti, başta Türk Tarih Tezi ve Nutuk olmak üzere sözlerini yazıya geçirdi. Türk tarih ve medeniyetinin bilimsel olarak araştırılması için kurumlar kurdu. Tarihi bir bilim olarak ele alıp onu belirli temellere dayandırarak yapılandırdı. Bu yazıda, Atatürk’ün Türkiye’de tarihi geliştirmek için yaptığı çalışmalar ve onu rehber edinen Afet İnan, Fuad Köprülü ve Muazzez İlmiye çığ’ın çalışmaları anlatılmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractAtatürk stated that one of the most important factors in a nation’s consistency is historical consciousness. Thus, he gave priority to objectivity and accuracy in histography and creating historical consciousness in Turkish society. He mentioned these topics in most of his speeches. He contributed academic studies two of the most important them are “Türk Tarih Tezi” and “Nutuk”. He also established institutions to study these subjects scientifically and objectively. This paper illustrates the contributions of him and Afet İnan, Fuad Köprülü and Muazzez İlmiye çağ who also followed his lead and contributed histography studies about Turkish history.en_US
