dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractBu çalışmanın amacı, Birikim Dergisi’nin, 1989-1999 yılları arasındaki süreçte gelişen olaylar karşısında nasıl bir konum aldığını ve derginin bahsi geçen dönem aralığındaki dergi yayıncılığı dünyasındaki konumunu anlamaktır. Bu bağlamda, Birikim Dergisi’nin ilk kuruluşunun amaçları ve siyasi tutumu ele alınmış; derginin yayıncılık hayatını isabetli bir şekilde anlamak için Türkiyedeki gerek siyasi gerek siyasal alanın dışında yayıncılık yapan dergicilik incelenmiş; ve son olarak da bahsi geçen dönemdeki feminist hareketlerle dergi arasında ne gibi bir ilişki bulunduğu incelenmiştir. Bu temelde gelişen araştırmamızın neticesinde, Birikim Dergisinin kendini tanımladığı alternatif bir sosyalist yayıncılık amacına uygun hareket ettiği sonucuna varılmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this research is to examine and understand the way in which Birikim Dergisi reacted to and being shaped by the significant events in Turkey in the period of 1989-1999 as well as to understand the role and importance of this journal among its contemporaries. In accordance with that, our research group examined the aim and political position/attitude of Birikim Dergisi in its establishment era. In order to be able to understand the role of Birikim Dergisi among other publications accurately, our research group considered both political and non-political magazine publishing of given time period in Turkey and compared them with Birikim Dergisi. After all, our research group examined the relations and mediation among Birikim Dergisi and 1990s feminist movements in Turkey. We concluded that Birikim Dergisi fits with its own definition about the journal, which implies that Birikim Dergisi works for a critical and alternative socialist publishing.en_US
