dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractKazaklar uzun yıllar boyu Altaylar’da yaşayan, cüzlerden oluşan bir topluluk veya gruptur. Kazakların 1940 yılı dolaylarında çeşitli nedenlerden ötürü ana vatanlarından Türkiye’ye ve dünyanın çeşitli yerlerine göç ettikleri bilinmektedir. Bu araştırmada Kazakların göç sebepleri, göç süreçleri, göçün kültür ve ekonomi alanındaki sonuçlarıyla Kazakların gittikleri bölgeler üzerindeki etkileri incelenmiştir. Türkiye’ye yerleşen Kazakların bir kısmı Salihli’de yaşamaktadır ve Salihli’ye yerleştikten sonra burada Salihli Kazak Türkleri Sosyal Dayanışma ve Kültür Derneği’ni kurmuşlardır. Bu araştırmada bu derneğin başkanı olan Şükrü Ali Eren’in ve Kazak kökenli Prof. Dr. Abdulvahap Kara’nın görüşlerinden faydalanılmıştır. Öte yandan gazete arşivleri, konu ile ilgili yazılmış makale ve kitaplar üzerinden de Kazakların bu göçünün süreçleri ve etkileri analiz edilmiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractKazakhs are a community or/and a group that have lived and formed in Altays for many years. During the 1940s, they emigrated from their homeland to Turkey and some other countries. But the majority immigrated to Turkey. In this study, the reasons, the process and consequences of this migration especially in domains of culture and economy were examined and analysed. After immigrating to Turkey, some of the Kazakhs settled in Salihli and here, they established the Kazakh Turks Social Solidarity and Culture Association. Şükrü Ali Eren, who is the president of this association, and Kazakh-origin Prof. Dr. Abdülvahap Kara were contacted and interviewed. The memories, ideas and knowledge of both Şükrü Ali Eren and Abdülvahap Kara on subjects mentioned above are utilized in this study and blended with our further analysis of the subject from different sources used such as newspaper archives, articles and books written on the subject.en_US
