Abstract

From the 1940s until the late 1990s, Hollywood movies had a strong presence in Turkish cinema and society. This research paper aims to study the motivations behind this strong presence and analyze the effects it had on prominent stakeholders, as well as society at large. The paper utilizes various sources to ensure a thorough investigation; in particular, it uses Hollywood and Turkish movies to draw a detailed comparison. The discussion points to Turkish society’s willingness to accept Hollywood movies, mainly due to political reasons and a desire for Westernization, which had profound implications on Turkish filmmakers and distributors, culture, and religion.
