dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractBu araştırma yazısında temel olarak Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtı sürecinde Beşparmak Dağlarına paraşütle iniş yapan Türk mürettebatından olan İdris Can’ın Harekât öncesinde, sürecinde ve sonrasında yaşadıkları anlatılmıştır. Bunların yanı sıra Kıbrıs krizinin tarihsel süreci, harekata doğru adım adım ilerleyen süreç ve bu süreç boyunda Türk halkının ve askerlerinin yaşadıkları İdris Can’la yaptığımız röportajdan elde ettiğimiz bilgiler doğrultusunda ele alınmıştır. Ayrıca bu harekât sürecinin Can’ın ve ailesinin hayatına etkileri de yazıya aktarılmıştır. Bu araştırma makalesi, birçok yazıya konu olmuş Kıbrıs Barış Harekatı’nı, hava mürettebatından İdris Can isimli Türk askerin gözünden farklı açılardan ve özgün bir biçimde ele alınmıştır.
dc.description.abstractThis research article will primarily focus on the experiences of İdris Can, a Turkish aircrew member who parachuted into the Besparmak Mountains during the Cyprus Peace Operation. The article will narrate his experiences before, during, and after the operation. Additionally, it will delve into the historical background of the Cyprus crisis, the step-by-step progression leading to the operation, and the challenges faced by the Turkish people and soldiers throughout this period, based on the information obtained from our interview with İdris Can. Furthermore, the article will discuss the impact of this operation on Can's life and his family, offering insights obtained from the interview. This research paper aims to provide a unique and original perspective on the Cyprus Peace Operation, which has been the subject of numerous writings, through the eyes of İdris Can, a Turkish soldier from the aircrew.
