dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBir kültürel miras olarak özellikte Kapalıçarşı ustaları tarafından yaşatılan ve günümüze kadar ulaşan mıhlayıcılık, kuyumculukta önemli bir süsleme işçiliğidir. Özellikle taşların metal üzerine aktarımı üzerine kurulu bu zanaatın devamlılığı, pek çok değerli usta yetiştirmiştir. Bu değerli isimlerden biri de Haçik Kelleci'dir. Haçik Kelleci, dokuz yaşında Kapalıçarşı'da çırak olarak başladığı bu zanaata, bugün küresel çapta ün sahibi bir usta olarak devam etmektedir. Bu araştırmada öncelikle mıhlayıcılık zanaatı ve bu zanaatın Türkiye'deki yeri incelenmiş; daha sonra ise bir mıhlayıcılık ustası olarak Haçik Kelleci'nin meslek öyküsüne yer verilmiştir. Araştırma sırasında çeşitli dergi ve gazete kupürleri, röportajlar ve Kelleci'nin kişisel arşivi kaynakça olarak kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nihai amacı ise, mıhlayıcılık zanaatında 47 sene hizmet vermiş değerli bir ustanın mesleğinde geçirdiği yıllara ışık tutmaktır.
dc.description.abstractThe art of jewelry-making has been an ongoing cultural heritage that is continued primarily by the craftsmen in Kapalıçarşı, İstanbul. As one of the many gifted craftsmen, Haçik Kelleci started the art of jewelry-making at the age of 9 as an apprentice in Kapalıçarşı. Despite the recognition he has received both globally and in Turkey, Kelleci continues his works as a jewelry-maker without compromising his traditional roots. In this study, a brief information about the history of jewelry-making, the importance of jewelry-making in Turkey and Kelleci's professional journey are demonstrated with the help of relevant news and magazine articles, interviews and Kelleci's own personal archive. The penultimate objective of this study is to shed some light on the professional history of Haçik Kelleci, one the leading representatives of jewelry-making in Turkey.
