Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between Elias Riggs’s services and Bulgarian national revival. Riggs was a missionary of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions and spent most of his life in the Ottoman Empire. During his times, minorities were affected by his works. His contribution included printings, religious activities, and translation of religious books into Bulgarian and amendment of education in terms of the establishment of the schools like Robert College. The consequences of his services will be discussed in detail.
