This research paper examines the life of the ABCFM missionary Dr. George Clayton Raynolds who led a mission station in Van (1872 - 1916). The goal of this paper is to shed light on his character, his humanitarian contributions for both destitute Turks and Armenians and see the motivations behind his work. It will demonstrate that Dr. Raynolds' work was the prime factor in enabling the ABCFM to gain a foothold in Van and to organize large-scale relief efforts for the Armenian population throughout his term of service.en_US
