Transition of the Syrian Protestant School from Orthodox Protestant to secularism 1860-1920

Abstract

Rapor, Suriyeli Protestan Okulu'nun geçiş dönemini protestocu misyon odaklı anlayışından liberalizme doğru dönüşüne kadar gözlemliyor. Rapor, yerel iktidar yetkileri ile yurttaşlar arasındaki ilişkinin yıl boyunca nasıl değiştiğini ve bunun okulların genel hedefini nasıl etkilediğini analiz etmek için birçok birincil ve ikincil kaynağa başvurmaktadır. Raporda ayrıca Birinci Dünya Savaşı, Genç Türk İsyanları ve Dürzîlerin Savaşı gibi önemli tarihsel olayların (okulların operasyonlarını) ve genel hedeflerini nasıl etkilediği üzerinde duruluyor.

The paper observes the transitional period of the Syrian Protestant School from its protestant missionary focused conception to its eventual turn towards liberalism. The Paper draws upon many primary and secondary sources to analyze how the relationship of the college with local ruling powers as well as the citizens changed throughout the years and how this affected the schools overall goal. The paper also focuses on how key historical events such as the First World War, the Young Turks Revolts and the War of Druzes affected the Schools operations and overall objectives.
