dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBu çalışmada yirmi beş yıldır Beyoğlu Sahaflar Çarşısında sahaflık yapan Sener Köksümer üzerinden, XVI. yüzyılda Osmanlı'da yaygınlaşan ve günümüze dek uzanan sahaflık geleneğinin tarihi gelişimini, bu geleneğe ev sahipliği yapan Beyoğlu Sahaflar Çarşısının önemini ve sahaflığın günümüzde nasıl devam ettiğini araştırarak bu geleneğinin kültürümüzdeki yerini kavramak hedeflenmiştir.
dc.description.abstractThis study aimed to understand the importance of sahaflık tradition in our culture through Sener Köksümer, who has been a sahaf in Beyoğlu Sahaflar Bazaar for twenty five years, by investigating the historical development of the sahaflık tradition, that became widespread in the Ottoman Empire in the XVI century and extended to today, the importance of Beyoğlu Sahaflar Bazaar, which hosted this tradition, and by searching about the how this tradition is continuing today.
