dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractOsmanlı topraklarında doğup, Fransız ekolü ile yetiştirilip, modern Türkiye’de hem yaşam, hem de fikir mücadelesi vermiş Türk yazar, çevirmen ve düşünür Cemil Meriç’in hayatı, kültürel ve ideolojik çeşitlilikler sergileyen bir tablodur. Henüz yolun yarısında, 38 yaşında gözlerini kaybetse de hayata tutunmayı başarabilmiş, bunun kendine bir engel oluşturmasına izin vermeden fikrî gelişimini sürdürmüştür. O düşünsel gelişimin bir meyvesi olarak da Türk edebiyatına pek çok özgün eser kazandırmış, şahsi olarak pek öne çıkan bir figür olarak yer almasa da bu eserler derin etkiler bırakmıştır. Bu çalışma, o etkilerin günümüz gözüyle günyüzüne çıkarılmasını amaçlamaktadır.en_US
dc.description.abstractBorn in Ottoman Empire, raised with French ecole, struggled for life and thought in modern Turkey, the life of Turkish writer, translator and thinker Cemil Meriç is a tableau that exhibits both cultural and ideological diversities. Despite losing his vision just in the middle of the road of life, at the age of 38, he managed to hold on to life, by not letting this burden to hinder his intellectual development. From that development, he produced countless of original works for the Turkish literature, where these works left an indelible impression though he himself was not much of a person that comes to the forefront. This study aims to explore those indelible impressions with modern-day’s point of view.en_US
