Beş bin yıldır yaşayan bir kent: eski Foça’da 1990’lar kazıları ve imar kararlarına direniş

Abstract

İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent Üniversitesi’ndeki HIST-200 dersi için yapılan bu çalışmada, Eski Foça’nın altında yatan arkeolojik birikiminin gün yüzüne çıkarılmasına emek vermiş olan Prof. Dr. Ömer Özyiğit’in, 90’lardaki kazı ekibiyle birlikte imara karşı mücadelesi araştırılmıştır. Bu çalışmada; Eski Foça’nın tarihi, kazı dönemleri ve 1977'deki sit kararlarının ardından arkeolojik mirasın korunmasına yönelik direniş incelenmiştir. Bölgenin imardan korunma yöntemleri, halk ve yerel otoritelerin rolü, kazıların günümüze etkileri araştırılmıştır. Başta Arkeolog Prof. Dr. Ömer Özyiğit olmak üzere, o dönem bölgede ikamet etmiş olan Ufuk ve Mücahit Erakyol’un yanı sıra Arkeolog Murat Öğren ile yapılan röportajlara sözlü kaynak olarak yer verilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı 1990’larda Foça’nın şehirleşmesine karşı verilen mücadeleyi ön plana çıkarmaktır. This study, conducted for the HIST-200 course at İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University, investigates the fight of Prof. Dr. Ömer Özyiğit, who worked to uncover the archaeological heritage underlying “Eski Foça”, together with the excavation team in the 1990s against construction. This study examines the history of Eski Foça, the excavation periods, and the resistance to the protection of the archaeological heritage following the site decisions of 1977. The methods of protecting the region from construction, the role of the public and local authorities, and the effects of the excavations on the present day are investigated. Interviews with archaeologist Prof. Dr. Ömer Özyiğit, as well as Ufuk and Mücahit Erakyol, who resided in the region at the time, and archaeologist Murat Öğren were included as oral sources. The main purpose of this study is to highlight the fight against the urbanization of Foça in the 1990s.
