Olimpiyatlarda Türk güreşinin yerini değiştiren başarı öyküsü

Bu projede, Türkiye’de güreş sporu ve Olimpiyat Oyunları’nda güreş tarihsel olarak incelenmiştir. Olimpiyat Oyunları’nda güreşin yeri; 1924 oyunlarıyla Türkiye’nin ilk kez devlet olarak Olimpiyatlar’a katılışı, elde edilen başarılar (1936-1968) ve başarısızlıklar (1972-1988), uzun bir başarısızlık döneminden sonra başarılarla gelen toparlanma ve yükselme dönemi olarak anlatılmıştır. Olimpiyat Oyunları’nda elde ettikleri şampiyonluklarla toparlanma ve yükselme sürecine katkı sağlayan Mehmet Akif Pirim (1992) ve Mahmut Demir’in (1996) biyografileri araştırılmıştır. Türkiye Güreş Federasyonu yaptığı çalışmalarla güreşin gelişmesine olan etkisi açısından ele alınmıştır. Son olarak; devletin spor ve güreş üzerindeki rolü, desteği ve aldığı kararlar üzerinden incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmada, yazılı kaynak olarak makaleler ve gazete haberleri kullanılmasının yanı sıra, sözlü kaynak olarak Mehmet Akif Pirim ve Mahmut Demir ile görüşülmüştür.

In this project, wrestling in Turkey and wrestling at the Olympic Games has been historically researched. The place of wrestling as part of the Olympic Games has been explained as in Turkey’s joining the Olympics for the first time as a new state, the accomplishments gained (1936-1968) and the failures (1972-1988), the period of recovery by way of such accomplishments following a long period of failures and the period of advancement. Research on biographies of Mehmet Akif Pirim (1992) and Mahmut Demir (1996), who have contributed to the periods of recovery and advancement with their championships at the Olympic Games, has been conducted. Turkey Wrestling Federation has been reviewed in relation to the effects of its work on the development of wrestling. Lastly, the role of the goverment in sports and wrestling, has been assessed in relation to its support and the decisions taken. In this project, articles and newspaper articles as written sources have been used, and Mehmet Akif Pirim and Mahmut Demir have been interviewed as oral sources.
