dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBursa Tarihi Hanlar ve Çarşılar Bölgesi, tarihsel süreçte hem fiziksel hem de sosyal/ekonomik açıdan önemli değişimler geçirmiş. Fiziksel olarak, çeşitli ayaklanmalar, depremler ve yangınlar bölgede büyük hasara yol açmış ve ardından restorasyon süreçleri yaşanmış. Sosyal ve ekonomik olarak ise, Tanzimat Reformları ve batılılaşma hareketi, geleneksel yapıları değiştirmiş ve yeni üretim-tüketim alışkanlıklarını beraberinde getirmiştir. Esnaf kollarının işlevsel bağlantıları, lonca teşkilatlarının kurulması ve üretim-satış metotlarının gelişmesi, 19. yüzyıla kadar bölgenin genel yapısını belirlemiştir. Ancak, 19. yüzyılda yaşanan reformlar ve sanayileşme süreci, çarşının yapısını daha da değiştirmiştir. Bugün, çarşıda geleneksel mesleklerin yanı sıra modern dükkanlar da bulunmaktadır.
dc.description.abstractDuring the historical process, the Borsa Historic Hanlar and Marts Region has undergone significant changes both physically and socially/economically. Physically, various uprisings, earthquakes and fires have caused considerable damage to the area, followed by restoration processes. Socially and economically, the Tanzimat Reforms and the westernization movement changed traditional structures and brought in new production-management habits. The functional linkages of the craftsmen, the establishment of pottery institutions and the development of production and sales methods determined the general structure of the region until the 19th century. However, reforms and industrialization in the 19th century further altered the structure of the market. Today, the market is home to traditional professions as well as modern shops.
