dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractTatsuya Yamamoto; Japonya‟da doğup büyümüş, bir UNESCO çalışanı olarak pek çok ülke gezmiş ve sonunda Türkiye‟ye yerleşmiş Japon bir mimardır. Türk insanının sıcakkanlılığından etkilenen ve Türk-İslam mimarisine hayranlık duyan Yamamoto, Türkiye‟deki hayatı boyunca akademisyenlik yapmış, ortağı Gökhan Altuğ ile birlikte TAGO Mimari‟yi açmış ve pek çok mimari çalışmalara imza atmıştır. Bu mimari çalışmalarında geleneksel Türk mimarisini Japon mimarisi ile sentezlemiştir. Ayrıca, geleneksel Türk evine duyduğu ilgi sonucu Anadolu‟yu gezerek Türk evini araştırmış, bunun üzerine bir tez yazmıştır. Bu çalışma, Tatsuya Yamamoto‟nun Türkiye‟ye ve Türk mimarisine kazandırdıkları ve bunun karşılığında kendisinin Türk mimarisinden nasıl esinlendiğine odaklanmaktadır.
dc.description.abstractTatsuya Yamamoto is a Japanese architect who was born and raised in Japan, who‟s travelled to various countries as UNESCO personnel and ended up settling down in Turkey. Charmed by the warm-hearted people of Turkey and amazed by the Turkish-Islamic architecture, Yamamoto has worked as an academician, opened up the architecture firm TAGO with his associate architect Gökhan Altuğ and worked on many projects throughout his time in Turkey. In these architectural projects, he has integrated Japanese architecture with traditional Turkish architecture. Furthermore, due to the passion he had towards the traditional Turkish house architecture, Yamamoto has travelled through Anatolia to study the traditional Turkish house and has written a thesis over this. This project focuses on Tatsuya Yamamoto‟s contributions to Turkish architecture and what he has gained from Turkish architecture.
