Süleyman Okur’un hayatı ve bisiklet kariyeri

Bisiklet sporu, Türkiye’ye 19. yüzyılın sonlarında tanıtılmıştır ve Türkiye’de yaygınlaşmaya başlaması 1970’lerde olmuştur. Araştırmamızda, bisiklet sporunun kalkındırıldığı yıllarda milli bisikletçi olan Süleyman Okur’un hayatını inceledik. 1946 doğumlu olup profesyonel bisikletçiliğe 1966’da başlayan Okur’un spor kariyerinde bisiklet sürmeyi seçmesinde yaşadığı coğrafya ve dönemin önemi araştırılmıştır. Okur’un bisiklet sürmeye yönelmesindeki en önemli faktörlerden biri Konyalı olmasıdır. Konya, düz jeomorfolojik yapıya sahip olmasıyla bisiklet sürmeye elverişlidir. Bu araştırmada, maddi zorluklar başta olmak üzere, zorluklarla geçirdiği spor kariyeri analiz edilmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra bu çalışmada, Süleyman Okur’ un hayatı merkeze alınarak Türkiye’de bisiklet sporunun tarihi ve geçen yıllar içinde gelişimi incelenmiştir.

Riding a bicycle has been introduced to Turkey in the late nineteenth century and it has become popular in the 1970s. In our research, we have examined Süleyman Okur’s life, who had been a national athlete in the time period that riding a bicycle spread throughout Turkey. Okur was born in 1946 and started riding a bicycle professionally in 1966. In this study, the factors of the geographic features of the environment he grew up in is examined. Also, how the time period that he lived in has affected Okur’s decision to choose cycling was the concern of this paper.. Konya, which is a Turkish city where Okur grew up, has flat ground which is convenient for riding a bicycle, and also, Konya has the second longest cycle route. In the years that Okur represented Turkey, being a national athlete hadn’t provided any income economically hence Okur had to have another career other than being an athlete. To conclude, this study examines the history of the sport of riding a bicycle in Turkey and its development through the years by focusing on Süleyman Okur’s life.
