Abstract

Bu yazı, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nda ABCFM'nin misyonerlerinden olan Lyman Bartlett'in çabalarına değinmektedir. İzmir'da çeşitli okullar ve üniversiteler oluşturmak da dahil olmak üzere eğitime yaptığı sayısız hizmet anlatıldı. Bu yazıda ayrıca çalışmanın arkasındaki motivasyonların yanı sıra bölgede çalışırken üstesinden gelmek zorunda kaldığı zorluklar da tartışılacaktır.


This paper addresses the efforts of Lyman Bartlett, who was a missionary for the ABCFM, in the Ottoman Empire. His numerous services to education, including creating several schools and universities in Smyrna have been described. This paper will also discuss the motivations behind his work, as well as the numerous hardships he had to overcome while working in the region.
