dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBu makale, 2000’ler öncesi pek çok açıdan azınlık konumunda bulunan Naciye Sandıkçı’nın çocukluk döneminden doktor olmasına kadarki süreçte yaşadıklarını ailesel, sosyokültürel ve mesleki bağlamlarda, kendisiyle yapılan röportaj yoluyla incelemektedir. Yetiştiği ortamda karşılaştığı çeşitli zorluklar ve kendisine yüklenen sorumluluklara değinilmiş, kız çocuklarının eğitimine karşı genel tutumun kendisini engellemesine izin vermeden doktor olma yolculuğu incelemiştir. Lise süreci, bu süreci takiben üniversite hayatı ve mesleğini icra etmeye başlaması ile zorunlu ihtisas görevinde karşılaştığı çeşitli olaylar araştırılmıştır. Bu makale, bireysel bir başarı hikâyesi üzerinden döneminin eğitim, kimlik ve toplumsal cinsiyet bağlamlarında mevcut olan birtakım zorluklara ışık tutma niteliğindedir.
dc.description.abstractThis article examines the journey of Naciye Sandıkçı, a person who is in the position of a minority in several aspects, becoming a doctor from familial, sociocultural, and professional perspectives before the 2000’s through her interview. The various difficulties experienced by Naciye Sandıkçı and the responsibilities she was given in the environment she grew up in are touched upon, and her journey of overcoming prejudices against girls' education and becoming a doctor is examined. Her high school period, her life at university after this period, and various events she encountered during her compulsory specialization duty are investigated. This article aims to shed light on a number of problems within the contexts of the period's education, identity, and the troubles caused by gender in society through an individual success story.
