dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractOsmanlı Devleti’nde ülkenin çeşitli bölgelerinde birbirinden farklı ölçü birimleri kullanılmıştır. Birçoğu bölgeden bölgeye büyük değer farklılıkları gösteren bu birimler hem Osmanlı Dönemi’nde hem de Cumhuriyet’in ilk yıllarında bir standarda bağlanmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu standart, o dönem çoğu ülkenin kullandığı metrik sistemdir. Bu çalışma, neden metrik sisteme geçildiğini, her iki dönemdeki geçiş çalışmalarını, geçişin olası etkilerini incelemiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractIn the Ottoman Empire, various measurement units were being used in different regions and many units showed significant value differences from region to region. Both the Ottoman reign and the Turkish Republic have tried to standardize these units. The standard is the metric system which was being used by many countries at that time. This study investigates why there was a need for metric system, transition trials during both Ottoman and Turkish Republic era and the effects of the transition.en_US
