dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractÖmer Can, Akpınar Köy Enstitüsü mezunu keman virtüözüdür. Can, eğitim hayatı boyunca Gazi Müzik Eğitim Fakültesi başta olmak, Köln Yüksek Müzik Okulu'nda keman eğitimi aldı. Aldığı ulusal ve uluslararası burslarla eğitim için yurt dışına gönderildi. Eğitimlerinin sonrasında hocalığının yanında, Cumhurbaşkanlığı Senfoni Orkestrası, Devlet Opera ve Balesi Orkestrası, Başkent Oda Orkestrası gibi orkestralarda sayısız temsile birinci keman olarak katıldı ve temsillerin konzertmeisterlığını yaptı. Bir yandan kariyeri boyunca yazdığı keman metotlarıyla sayısız öğrenciye keman eğitimi için kaynak sağlamış oldu. Bu araştırmada Ömer Can'ın eğitim ve kariyer hayatına dair belgelerden, anı kitabından, ödüllerinden, fotoğraflarından ve kendisiyle yaptığımız röportajdan yaralanılarak Ömer Can'ın hayatı anlatılmıştır. Bu projenin amacı Ömer Can'ın biyografik hayat öyküsünü anlatmak ve 1940'lı yıllardan günümüze kadar Türk müziğinin gelişimini Can'ın hayatı üzerinden incelemektir.
dc.description.abstractÖmer Can is a violin virtuoso from Akpınar Köy Enstitüsü. During his education life Can received violin training at first Gazi University Division of Music Education and then Cologne University of Music. He was sent abroad for music education with national and international scholarships. After his education, Can participated in several orchestras such as State Opera and Ballet Orchestra, Gazi Trio, Presidential Symphony Orchestra, The Capital Chamber Orchestra as first violin and konzertmeister. Moreover, during his career, he provided resources for violin education for countless students with the violin methods he has written. This article will elaborate Ömer Can's life story by inquiring into his career documents, memories, photographs and interview with Can. The aim of this research is to examine the development of Turkish music history via Ömer Can's life since 1940s.
