dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractBu araştırmada Türkiye’de balenin doğuşu, Shirley Myclara Subaşı’nın hayat öyküsü ile birlikte ele alındı. Türkiye’de bale nasıl başladı ve nasıl gelişti, yeni doğan bu bale için nasıl bir müfredat ve eğitim koşulları yaratıldı sorularının cevapları verildi. Shirley Myclara Subaşı’nın baleye başlangıç hikâyesi, neden ve nasıl baleye başlama kararı aldığı, hangi sebeplerden ötürü Türkiye’ye göç ettiği anlatıldı. Akabinde Fenmen Bale Okulu ve okulun eğitimi hakkında bilgi verildi. Bunların yanı sıra Shirley Subaşı’nın da Türkiye’de bulunduğu zaman dilimi içerisinde yaşadıkları temel alınarak balenin nasıl ve ne şekilde ilerlediği ve bu husustaki çalışmalar hakkında bilgiler verildi. Shirley Subaşı’nın Ankara Devlet Opera ve Balesi’nde kadrolu dansçılığa geçişi, yer aldığı gösteriler ve Türk bale tarihi açısından öneme sahip olan Coppelia Balesi hakkında bilgiler aktarıldı. Bunların sonucunda ise günümüz bale sanatının ulaşmış olduğu seviye ve süre gelen kült etkinliklerden bahsedildi.en_US
dc.description.abstractThis paper refers to the life of a ballerina, Shirley Myclara Subaşı and her correlation to the formation of Turkish Ballet. The questions of how did Turkish Ballet have started, developed in means of educational curriculum and conditions are answered. The story behind Shirley Myclara Subaşı’s ballet life and her migration to Turkey from England are discussed. Considering Shirley Subaşı’s professional ballet life in Turkey as a permanent ballet dancer in Ankara State Opera and educational ballet life as an instructor, this paper gives information about Fenmen Ballet School and the education being taught. Shirley Subaşı’s lifetime performances such as Coppelia which has a big importance for history of Turkish ballet are mentioned. Finally, the paper is conducted to ballet and ongoing activities about ballet and art in the present day in Turkey are mentioned.en_US
