İETT'nin tarihi ve İstanbul ulaşımına katkıları

Abstract

İstanbul Elektrik Tramvay ve Tünel İşletmeleri (İETT) kurulduğu tarihten bu yana İstanbul ulaşımını şekillendiren bir kurum olmuştur ve olmaya devam etmektedir. İETT’nin yapısı ve İstanbul ulaşımına katkıları, ülke ve dünya genelindeki gelişmelere paralel olarak farklı süreçlerden geçmiştir. Bu çalışmanın ilk bölümünde İstanbul’daki ulaşımın İETT öncesindeki durumuna değinilmiştir. Çalışmanın ikinci bölümünde cumhuriyetin ilanıyla birlikte İETT’nin millileşmesi, kurumun kendi kimliğini kazanması ve ulaşımın gelişmesine sağladığı katkılar incelenmiştir. Bu bölümde ayrıca İkinci Dünya Savaşı’nın İETT üzerindeki ekonomik etkileri ele alınmıştır. Çalışmanın son bölümünde ise 1960-1995 yılları arası, İETT’nin modernleşme süreci olarak incelenmiştir. Bu bölümde İETT’nin karşılaştığı sorunlar ve geliştirilen bazı projelerden bahsedilirken aynı zamanda kurumun tarihi boyunca İstanbul şehrinin dokusuna katkıları, ekonomik ve sosyokültürel yönlerden ortaya konulmuştur. Istanbul Electric Tramway and Tunnel Enterprises (IETT) has been a leading institution shaping Istanbul's transportation since its establishment and continues to do so. The structure of IETT and its contributions to Istanbul's transportation has gone through various processes parallel to developments in the country and worldwide. The first section of this study discusses the state of transportation in Istanbul before IETT. In the second section, with the proclamation of the Republic, the nationalization of IETT, the institution's acquisition of its own identity, and its contributions to the development of transportation are examined. This section also addresses the economic impacts of the Second World War on IETT. In the final section of the study, the period from 1960 to 1995 is analyzed as the modernization process of IETT. While this section discusses the challenges faced by IETT and some developed projects, it also highlights the institution's contributions to the characteristics of Istanbul throughout its history from economic and sociocultural perspectives.
