dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractAraştırmada 1965-1969 yılları arasında Süleyman Demirel Hükümeti’nin tarım bakanlığını yapmış olan Bahri Dağdaş’ın yaşamını, siyasi hayatını ve Türkiye’ye Yeşil Devrim’in getirilmesine yönelik katkılarını incelemek amaçlanmıştır. 1919 yılında Kars’ta doğmuş olan Bahri Dağdaş, lise yıllarında talimatlara uymayarak okul dışı bir şapka takması sebebiyle o dönemki Kars valisinin aracını görünce kaçma kararı almıştır. Fakat valinin korumaları tarafından yakalanarak valiyle yüzleşme durumunda kalmış ve lise öğrencisi olduğunu göstermek amacıyla öğrendiklerini saymaya başlamıştır. Bu durumdan etkilenen vali Dağdaş’ın eğitim hayatına destek olmuştur. Başarı bursu ile yüksek öğretimini yurt dışında tamamlamış ve parlamentoda Almanca ile ilgili münasebetleri üstlenmiştir. şeker Fabrikaları Ortaklığı’nda ziraat planlama uzmanı olarak işe girmiş ve Adalet Partisi tarafından 1965 yılında Konya milletvekili ilan edilmiştir. Tarım Bakanlığı görevi sürecinde Ankara Ziraat Fakültesi öğrencileri tarafından Amerikan sempatizanı olmakla suçlanmış ancak fakülteyi davet edilmesi sonucu bilgi düzeyiyle öğrencileri etkilemeyi başarmıştır. Böylece fakülteyi arkasına alarak başlatmış olduğu Yeşil Devrim’i başarıyla sonuçlandırmıştır. 1970 yılında Demirel üzerine yolsuzluk iddiaları çıkarılması gerekçesiyle AP’den ayrılmış ve Ferruh Bozbeyli ile Demokrat Parti’nin kuruluşunda rol oynamıştır. Siyasi hayatını 14-15. Dönem Konya Milletvekilliği ve 16. Dönem Kars Milletvekilliği ile devam ettirmiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe aim of the research was to investigate the life of Bahri Dağdaş, the Minister of Agriculture between the years 1965-1969, and the role played by him in the development of the Green Revolution in Turkey. Dağdaş was born in 1919 in Kars and was introduced to the ambassador after trying to run away due to him wearing a different hat than what was mandatory in his school. After being caught he tried to prove that he was a high school student by telling him about his knowledge of the lessons. The ambassador, impressed by Bahri’s knowledge, went to support his education. With a scholarship he studied university abroad and worked in the parliament on subjects regarding the German language. He worked in şeker Fabrikaları Ortaklığı as an expert and was declaret Konya’s member of Parliament in 1965. During the time he was the Minister of Agriculture he was declared ann American sympathizer by Ankara Ziraat Fakültesi. But he proved his knowledge to them and with their support established the Green Revolution with success. In 1970 due to suspicions regarding Demirel he left AP and played a role in the founding of DP. He continued his political career by being a member of parliement in the 14-15. Period and the 16. Period.en_US
