dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract1980 sonrasında Türkiye’de sosyal, siyasal ve ekonomik olarak birçok değişiklik meydana gelmiştir. Özellikle Anavatan Partisi’nin 1983 yılında Turgut Özal başkanlığında tek başına hükümet kurduktan sonraki dönemde daha liberal bir ekonomi modeli denenmiştir. Dönemin Başkanı Turgut Özal yeni benimsenecek serbest ekonomi modeliyle özel sektörün piyasadaki etkisini artırmaya çalışırken dönemin Türkiye Sanayi Odası Başkanı Ali Coşkun 1986 yılında Türkiye Odalar ve Borsalar Birliği’nin başına getirilmiştir. Daha sonra 1996 yılında Anavatan Partisinden TBMM’ye giren Ali Coşkun yoluna AK Parti ile devam ederek 2007 yılına kadar Türk siyaseti ve sanayisinde önemli rol oynamıştır. Bu araştırmayı yaparken bizzat Ali Coşkun’un kendisiyle yaptığımız röportajdan, kendisi tarafından yazılan otobiyografisinden, dönemin gazetelerinden, Meclis tutanaklarından ve çeşitli internet kaynaklarından yararlanarak, Ali Coşkun’un hayatını derin bir şekilde inceleyip hem dönemin Türkiye'sinin onun üzerinde etkisi hem de onun Türk siyaseti ve ekonomisindeki önemi anlatılmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractAfter 1980, many social, political and economic changes occurred in Turkey. A more liberal economic model was tried especially in the period after the Anavatan Party formed a single government under the chairmanship of Turgut Özal in 1983. While Turgut Özal, the President of the period, was trying to increase the influence of the private sector in the market with the free economy model to be adopted, Ali Coşkun, the President of the Chamber of Industry at that time, was appointed as the head of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges in 1986. Later, Ali Coşkun, who entered the Parliament from the Motherland Party in 1996, continued with the AK Party and played an important role in Turkish politics and industry until 2007. While doing this research, we analyzed Ali Çoşkun's life in depth, using the interview we made with Ali Çoşkun himself, his autobiography, the newspapers of the period, the parliamentary minutes and various internet sources, and both the effect of the Turkey of the period on him, Turkish politics and its importance in the economy.en_US
