TCG Kocatepe’de bir subay: Özhan Bakkalbaşıoğlu

Abstract

1960’lardan itibaren Kıbrıs adasında yaşayan Rumlar ve Türkler arasındaki gerginlik hat safhaya ulaşmıştır. Kıbrıs’ı Yunanistan’a bağlamayı amaçlayan Rumlar, adada yaşayan Türkleri birçok kez katletmişlerdir. Bu gelişmeler üzerine Türkiye Cumhuriyeti, garantör devlet sıfatıyla Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtı’nı düzenlemiştir. Kıbrıs’ın denizdeki konumundan dolayı harekâtta donanma önemli bir rol üstlenmiştir. TCG Kocatepe harekâtta yer alan donanma gemilerinden biridir. Bu gemi yanlış istihbarat ve koordinasyon eksikliği sebebiyle Türkiye’nin bizzat kendi uçakları tarafından batırılmıştır. Elli dört askerin şehit olduğu bu faciadan geminin Savaş Harekât Merkezi Subayı Özhan Bakkalbaşıoğlu sağ kurtulmuştur. Bu yazıda Kocatepe Muhribi subayı Özhan Bakkalbaşıoğlu’nun gözünden bu facia anlatılmıştır. Bu araştırmada Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtı genel çerçevesinde olayın sebepleri, yaşanma anı, geminin batış süreci ve sonrasındaki etkileri Özhan Bakkalbaşıoğlu ile yapılan röportajdan faydalanılarak incelenmiştir.

Starting from the 1960s, the tension between Greeks and the Turks has greatly escalated. Greeks who desired Cyprus under Greece’s regulation, have slaughtered Turks living on the island many times. After these events, Turkey has decided to launch the Cyprus Peace Operation. In this process, the navy had a great importance as a result of the location of Cyprus as an island. TCG Kocatepe is one of the ships of the navy that has participated in the process. This ship has sunk because of inaccurate intelligence and incorrect guidance. In this disaster many soldiers have become martyrs. Özhan Bakkalbaşıoğlu, one of the officers on the ship has managed to escape alive from this disaster. In this paper, this disaster has been told from the point of view of Özhan Bakkalbaşıoğlu. In this study, the moment of the accident with the causes and consequences of the incident has been researched with relation to the Cyprus Peace Operation.
