dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractGrubun, Albay Celal Dora hakkında bir araştırma ödevi hazırlamak istemesinin temel sebebi böyle kahraman bir insanın isminin Türk halkı tarafından unutulmuş olması ve hakkında Kore Savaşında bir Amerikan subayını vurduğuna dair etrafta dolaşan bir yanlış bilgidir. Projede Celal Dora’nın Kore Savaşı’ndan önceki hayatı, Kore Savaşı’ndaki kahramanlıkları, siyasi hayatı ve kişisel özellikleri genel hatlarıyla incelenmiştir. Bu araştırma projesi yapılırken Celal Dora’nın kendisinin kaleme aldığı kitabına sıkça başvurulmuş, Celal Dora’nın Kore Savaşındaki anılarına yer verilmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra Milli Savunma Bakanlığı arşivindeki belgeler, 1951 tarihindeki gazete haberleri ve Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi arşivleri taranmış, kişisel hayatının yanında siyasi hayatıyla ilgili bilgilere de ulaşılmıştır. Proje, konu hakkında derin bilgiye sahip Doç. Dr. Mehmet Güneş ve Doç. Dr. Ali Denizli ile yapılan röportajlar sonucu daha güvenilir bilgiler doğrultusunda yazıya aktarılmıştır. dc.description.abstractIn this research, the main point is to make people realize that in the history of Turkey there is a hero, whose name is not known by anyone in Turkey, Colonel Celal Dora and investigate whether the rumor that Celal Dora shot an American Officer in Korean War reflects reality or not. In this project, Dora’s life before the war, his effect on Korean War, his political life, and his character features are investigated and listed. While doing that, we use several sources such as his own book that includes his memories and the documents in the archive of Ministry of National Defence. In addition to that, newspapers and some speeches of Celal Dora in the Turkish Parliament in 1951 are benefitted from in analyzing the topic. All of these resources are combined with some interviews done with Doç. Dr. Mehmet Güneş and Doç. Dr. Ali Denizli who are very well-informed on this topic. Hence, in this project, our aim is to tell people that the rumors regarding Dora do not reflect the real picture and tell people what Celal Dora did for his country and what he sacrificed so people can learn their history.en_US
