dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractBu çalışmada, Türkiye siyasetine önemli etkileri olmuş, Kore Gazisi, Milli Birlik Komite Üyesi ve Atatürkçü Düşünce Derneği kurucusu Mehmet Suphi Gürsoytrak’ınyaşamı, özellikle siyasi ve askeri hayatı ve bu bağlamda takip ettiği ideoloji ve buna bağlı yer aldığı oluşumlar çerçevesinde ele alınmıştır. Öncelikle, M. Suphi Gürsoytrak’ın aile hayatı, eğitim hayatı ve Kore Savaşı deneyimleri anlatılmıştır. Ardından 27 Mayıs 1960 tarihinde Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nde yaşanan 27 Mayıs ihtilalinde oynadığı rol ve Milli Birlik Komitesi’ndeki konumu ele alınmıştır. Daha sonrasında 12 Eylül 1980 darbesi sırasında Gürsoytrak’ın Cumhuriyet Senatosu’nda yapmış olduğu görevler, aynı zamanda politikanın dışında aktif rol oynadığı sivil toplum kuruluşlarındaki başarılarının yanı sıra, kendisinin de kurucu üyeliğini yapmış olduğu sivil toplum kuruluşları anlatılmıştır. Özellikle kendisinin çok büyük emek ve zaman ayırmış olduğu Atatürkçü Düşünce Derneği, diğer kuruluşlardan ayrı bir şekilde, daha detaylıca incelenmiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractIn this report, Cold War veteran, National Unity Committee member, Ataturkist Thought Associaton founder, Mehmet Suphi Gürsoytrak’s, whom had been very influential in the Turkish politics, political and military accomplishments, his way of thinking, his ideology and living and events he took place in, in his life period between the years 1925 to 2011 are approached. Next, his role in the revolution that took place in May 27, 1960, and his position in the National Unity Committee are reviewed. Later, what Mr. Gürsoytrak did in the Senate of Republic during the 12 September Coupe, and what he did outside of politics and his other such accomplishments, mainly in different non-governmental organizations, during the aftermath are discussed with the non-govermental organizations which he was the founding member. Most importantly, the non-governmental organization which he spent a lot of time and energy while both funding and administering, the Ataturkist Thought Association, is mentioned separately, and in more detail.en_US
