dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractBu çalışmada 1942-1944 yılları arasında Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nde uygulanan Varlık Vergisinin Gayrimüslim vatandaşlar üzerindeki etkileri incelenecektir. İlk olarak da Müslüman ve Gayrimüslim vatandaşlardan alınan vergi miktarları karşılaştırılacaktır. Çalışmanın odağında ise Varlık Vergisinin Gayrimüslim vatandaşlar üzerindeki iktisadi, kültürel ve sosyal etkileri yer alıyor. Araştırma için Ermeni, Yahudi ve Rum azınlıklardan Varlık Vergisi mükellefi olan beş Gayrimüslim kişi ve aileleri seçilmiştir ve aile bireylerinin, gazete haberi, günlük, röportajları ve birbirleriyle olan mektupları değerlendirilmiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractIn this study the effects of capital tax law on non-muslim citizens is examined. Firstly, the amounts of taxes that were taken from non-muslim and muslim citizens are compared. The focus of the study is the economical, cultural, and social effects of capital tax law on nonmuslim citizens. For this study five taxpayers and their families from Armenian, Jewish, Greek minorities have been chosen and news articles, diaries, interviews and letters are examined.en_US
