dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractHerhangi bir alanda doğal yeteneği veya yüksek genel zekâsı olan çocuklara üstün yetenekli çocuk denir. Bu çocukların yeteneklerinin açığa çıkabilmesi için özel eğitim almaları gerekir. Bundan ötürü birçok ülke, birçok özel yetenekli eğitim kurumu açmıştır. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti kurulduğunda özel yetenekli çocukların eğitimi için tasarlanan Köy Enstitüleri ve Fen Liseleri gibi kuruluşlar çeşitli sosyolojik ve ekonomik nedenlerle başarısız oldu. İlerleyen yıllarda Türk Profesör Necate Baykoç, Türkiye'de özel yetenekli çocukların eğitimine yönelik başarılı bir proje olan BİLSEM'i ortaya çıkardı. BİLSEM, 1995 yılında beş şehirde pilot bir proje olarak başladı ve 2023 yılına kadar tüm ülkeye yayıldı. 2023 itibariyle Türkiye genelinde 355 BİLSEM bulunmaktadır. Baykoç, kendini eğitimdeki fırsat eşitsizliklerini azaltmaya adamış ve çocuk gelişimi alanındaki çalışmalarıyla tanınmıştır. Eleştirilere ve zorluklara rağmen BİLSEM, Türkiye tarihinde özel yetenekli bireylerin eğitimine yönelik en başarılı ve sürdürülebilir model olarak kendine yer edinmiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractA gifted child is a child who has a natural talent or ability in a specific area or a high level of general intelligence. As such to make use of their abilities to the best, they have to take special education that is geared towards them. This has been the case for many millennia as many nations around the world used many different methods to educate these groups of children. When The Republic of Turkey was established, such an institution was lacking and the attempts to create one failed for many sociological and economic reasons. However, success was finally found with the declaration of BİLSEM. Necate Baykoç, Turkish professor and founder of BİLSEM, a successful project aimed at providing education for gifted children in Turkey. BİLSEM, or Science and Art Centers, began as a pilot project in five cities in 1995 and has since expanded to cover the entire country, with 355 centers as of 2023. Baykoç has been committed to addressing inequalities in education and has been recognized for his contributions in the field of child development. Despite facing criticism and challenges, BİLSEM has established itself as the most successful and sustainable model for the education of gifted individuals in Turkish history.en_US
