Türkiye'de deniz kaplumbağalarını koruma çalışmalarının başlangıcı, gelişimi ve tarihi

Abstract

Doğal hayatın korunması ve yerkürenin ekolojik dengelerini bozmamak yaşanılabilir bir geleceğin inşasında mühim unsurlardır. Bir ülkenin doğasına ve dolayısıyla doğasında barındırdığı canlı türlerinin korunmasına gösterdiği önem hem ulusal, hem de uluslararası kültürel ve doğal miraslara sahip çıkılmasına gösterdiği hassasiyetin işaretidir. Türkiye’de 1980’lerde başlayan deniz kaplumbağalarını koruma çalışmaları bu bağlamda Türkiye’nin tarihine dolayısıyla da günümüze ışık tutan önemli ve incelenmesi gereken çalışmalardır. Bu araştırmada Türkiye’de deniz kaplumbağalarını koruma çalışmalarının nasıl ve ne şartlarda başladığı, çalışmaların zaman içindeki gelişimi ve Türkiye tarihi ile nasıl kesiştiği incelenecektir.

Protecting the natural life and preserving earth’s ecological balance are crucial aspects of building a more habitable future on this planet. The extent to which a nation protects and cares for its natural assets, especially for its biological reserves, reveals the extent to which it prioritizes protecting its local cultural and natural heritages, as well as world’s natural and cultural heritages. For this reason, sea turtle conservation quests in Turkey that initiated circa 1980 are substantial for the nation’s history and enlightening in a way that projects invaluable knowledge to this day, therefore they shall be further investigated. In this study, the origins of sea turtle conservation quests, the circumstances in which those quests initiated, the way those quests came to be what they are today, and how the issue of conserving sea turtles convergeswith the history of Turkey will be investigated.
