dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractÇağdaş Fizik, 1976-1991 yılları arasında Türk Fizik Derneği tarafından çıkarılmış bir popüler bilim dergisiydi. Tarihsel bağlamda kendisinden önce gelen Fen Kulübü, Türkiye Fizik Cemiyeti Mecmuası gibi bilim dergilerinin devamı niteliğindeydi. Derginin hedefleri arasında Türk fizikçilerini yeni nesle tanıtmak, okuyucuları fizikteki gelişmelerden haberdar etmek, dernek üyeleri arasındaki iletişimi sağlamak gibi çeşitlilikler mevcuttu ve bu da Çağdaş Fizik’e haber organı olma gibi pek çok nitelik kattı. Dergi yayın hayatı boyunca maddi sıkıntılarla boğuştuğundan ve yazı yazacak yazar bulunmasında zorluklar çekildiğinden yayımlanma periyodu sık sık aksadı. Tirajı son sayılarında 500 ile 1000 arasında değişen Çağdaş Fizik, 22 sayının ardından yayın hayatına son verdi. Ancak bu durum, o dönem yeni çıkan dergilerin de etkisiyle Türkiye’de bir popüler bilim dergisi boşluğu yaratmadı. Türk Fizik Derneği ise Çağdaş Fizik dergisinin yerine akademik bir dergi olan Balkan Physics Letter’ın çıkarılmasında Balkan Fizik Topluluğu aracılığıyla görev aldı.
dc.description.abstractÇağdaş Fizik is a popular science journal published in the years 1976-1991 by the Turkish Physics Society. In a historical sense this journal was the continuation of scientific journals such as Fen Kulübü and Türkiye Fizik Cemiyeti Mecmuası. The objectives of this journal included teaching the new generations about older Turkish physicists, announcing the progress in the field of physics and communications between the Turkish Physics Society Members. During the years of the journal's release it was almost never released on time due to financial instability and insufficient number of willing writers. The journal had a print count of around 500 to 2000 per issue. After 22 issues the journal was discontinued. This however did not cause problems in the Turkish journal sphere as many new scientific journals popped up around the time of discontinuation of Çağdaş Fizik. After these events Turkish Physics Society also did not end up without a journal as it contributed to Balkan Physics Society in the printing of a new scientific journal Balkan Physics Letters.
