dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractBu proje kapsamında Bulgaristan’da azınlık konumunda olan Türk halkını temsilen genç yaşta milletvekilliği yapmış, sonrasında ise Bulgaristan hükümetinin uygulamış olduğu baskılar ve sert yaptırımlar sonucu birçok Türk ile beraber Türkiye’ye göç etmiş Hatice özgür’ün dönemin şartlarıyla beraber yaşadığı göç süreci incelenmiştir. Türklerin Bulgaristan’daki sosyal ve politik yapısına, karşı karşıya kaldıkları baskılara, uygulanan asimilasyon siyasetine Hatice özgür’ün ışığında ayna tutulmuştur.en_US
dc.description.abstractIn this project, 1989 Turkish-Bulgaria immigration was investigated through the story of Hatice özgür, who was a young Turkish deputy in the Bulgarian parliament. After 1984 Bulgarian government forced Turkish minority to change their names and put a lot of pressure on the Turks. Hatice özgür was subjected to these pressures as well and her story enlightens the story of immigration of the Turkish minority in 1980’s Bulgaria.en_US
