dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBu araştırmada Hayrettin Karaca'nın hayatı, çevre için yaptığı faaliyetler ve TEMA'nın kuruluşunda aldığı rol incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın ilk kısmında Hayrettin Karaca'nın doğumundan gençliğine ve triko-örme işinin başına geçmesinin sanayi alanına etkisine değinildi. İkinci kısımda ise Türkiye'nin ilk ağaç müzesinin kurulması, Hayrettin Karaca'nın Anadolu florasını tanımak amacıyla yaptığı fedakarlıklar ve Hayrettin Karaca'nın erozyon tehlikesini belgeleyen önemli bir arşiv oluşturmasından bahsedildi. Araştırmanın üçüncü kısmında Hayrettin Karaca'nın A. Nihat Gökyiğit ve Vehbi Koç ile tanışmasına ve TEMA Vakfı'nın kurulmasına değinildi. Araştırmanın son kısmında Hayrettin Karaca'nın Toprak Dede ismini alış hikayesinden Alternatif Nobel Ödülü ve çalışmalarından dolayı üniversitelerden aldığı fahri doktorluk unvanlarından bahsedilmiştir.
dc.description.abstractIn this research, the life of Hayrettin Karaca, the activities he carried out for the environment and the role of TEMA in the establishment of the study were examined. In the first section of the research, Karaca's childhood and the beginning of his knitwear business was mentioned to get a better understanding of his life. In the second section; the establishment of Turkey's first tree museum, his sacrifices to get to know the Anatolian flora and his archive documenting the significance of erosion. In the third part of the research, it was stated that Karaca's relationship with A. Nihat Gökyiğit and Vehbi Koç and the establishment of TEMA Foundation. In the last part of the research, it is emphasized that the honorary doctorate titles that Karaca received from the universities for his Alternative Nobel Prize and the story of the name "Toprak Dede".
