dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractSokak Dergisi (1989), haftalık bir dergi olarak 27 Ağustos 1989 tarihinde yayımlanmaya başlanmıştır. Enver Nalbant'ın sahibi olduğu Sokak Dergisi'nin genel yayın yönetmenliğini Tuğrul Eryılmaz üstlenmiştir. Çıkarıldığı dönemin medya anlayışına aykırı bir duruşla yola çıkan dergi, yer verdiği konular (çevre hareketi; işçiler; feminizm; toplumsal cinsiyet) sebebiyle pek çok eleştiriye maruz kalmıştır. Çektiği tüm tepkiye ve kısa yayım ömrüne rağmen dergi, medya anlayışına yeni bir bakış açışı kazandırmış ve özgür medyanın yolunu açarak sonraki dönemlerde yayınlanacak pek çok dergiye ışık kaynağı olmuştur. Okurlarında bıraktığı etki; toplumun özgür bir medyaya, halktan yana ve 'sokak' kültürünü yansıtan bir dergiye olan ihtiyacını gösterir niteliktedir. Sokak Dergisi Nisan 1990'da 32 sayılık yayın hayatına son vermiştir.
dc.description.abstractSokak (1989) was published as a weekly magazine starting from August 27, 1989. Tuğrul Eryilmaz was the editor-in-chief of the Sokak magazine owned by Enver Nalbant. The magazine, which started with a stance contrary to the media understanding of the period in which it was published, has been subject to many criticisms due to its issues (environmental movement; workers problems at that era; feminism; gender). In spite of all the reaction it attracted and its short publishing life, the magazine gained a new perspective on media understanding and opened the way for free media and became a source of light for many magazines to be published in later periods. The impact it has left on its readers shows the need for a free media, a magazine that reflects the public and 'street' culture. Sokak magazine ceased publication in April 1990 with 32 issues.
