dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractTürkiye’de 80’li ve 90’lı yıllarda icra edilmiş Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Hardcore Punk ve Grindcore gibi ekstrem müzik türevleri gerek radikal temalarıyla, gerekse medyadaki yansımalarıyla Türkiye’nin sosyal tarihinde önemli bir yer edinmiştir. 80 Darbesi gibi siyasi olaylar sonucunda etkilenen Türkiye ekonomisinin getirdiği kısıtlı imkanlara ve medyanın manipülasyonlarına rağmen bu müzik kültürü Türkiye’de yayılmayı sürdürmüş, Türkiye ekstrem müzik tarihinin en ikonik ürünleri de bu dönemlerde ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu araştırmada Türkiye ve dünya ekstrem müzik tarihine dair belgelerden, yayınlardan, gazete makalelerinden ve araştırmanın kapsadığı dönemlerde aktif bir şekilde müzik icra eden müzisyenlerden alınan bilgilerden yararlanılarak ekstrem müziğin Türkiye toplumundaki yansımaları incelenmiş, aynı zamanda da dönemin sosyolojik bir portresi çizilmiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractExtreme music genres such as Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Hardcore Punk and Grindcore had an important part in the history of Turkey during 80s and 90s because of their radical lyrical concepts and their reflections in the media. Despite the bad economical conditions due to the political events like 1980’s Coup d'etat and Turkish media’s constant manipulations, extreme music subculture spread widelyin Turkey and during that period of time, the most iconic releases of extreme music genre were made. In this research, documents, publications, newspaper articles and information from musicians who were actively taking part in Turkish extreme music scene were used in order to examine the impact of extreme music in Turkish society and history while drawing a sociological portrait of that era.en_US
