The perception that there are no serial killers in Turkey is quite widespread and also quite wrong. Although some Turkish killers fit the definition of a serial killer, they are not categorized as such and therefore are not remembered as serial killers. Süleyman Aktaş, known as Çivici (Nailed) Killer, who killed 5 people in total in the years of 1986 and 1994, is one of the most prominent of these names. This article will outline his story by touching upon his work accident, his murders, the atmosphere of the 90s period in which he committed his murders, whether he had a criminal license or not, and how he was featured in the media. This article also aims to raise public awareness about Turkish serial killers by shedding light on the case of Süleyman Aktaş. By expanding this and similar studies, it is aimed to demolish the approach that there are no Turkish serial killers.
