Türk ralli sporuna ve kültürüne farklı bir miras: Camel Trophy

Camel Trophy yarışması, 1980-2000 yılları arasında Türkiye dahil olmak üzere tüm dünyadaki off-road ve macera sporları kültürlerinin öncüsü olmuştur. Her yıl farklı Amazon ormanlarında ve zorlayıcı arazilerde yapılan yarışmalar dünyaca ünlü Camel ve Land Rover markalarının sponsorluğunda varlığını devam ettirmiştir. Türkiye’nin de aktif olarak katılmış olduğu Camel Trophy, offroad ve ekstrem sporları kategorilerinde en prestijli yarışmalardan biri olarak tanınmıştır. Yarışmanın Türk şampiyonları sayesinde Camel Trophy, Türk ralli ve off-road sporlarını ve kültürünü büyük ölçüde etkilemiştir. Bu araştırmada Camel Trophy’nin içeriğinden ve kapsamından, gerçekleştirilidiği zaman aralığında yarışmanın Türkiye’de oluşturduğu etkilerden bahsedilecektir. Bu çalışmada çeşitli gazete yazılarından, makalelerden ve blog yazılarından yararlanılmıştır. Ayrıca, Camel Trophy’de kameraman, yarışmacı ve haberci olarak yer almış kişilerle röportaj yapılmıştır. Röportaj esnasında Camel Trophy’nin nasıl bir yarışma olduğuna ve yarışmanın gerçekleştiği döneme dair sorular sorulmuştur. Bu çalışma sayesinde Camel Trophy yarışmasının Türkiye tarihine, medyasına ve off-road sporları kültürüne dair önemine açıklık sağlamak amaçlanmıştır.

The Camel Trophy competition had been the pioneer of off-road and adventure sports cultures all over the world, including Turkey, between 1980-2000.The competitions held in different Amazon forests and challenging terrains each year continued to exist under the sponsorship of the world-famous Camel and Land Rover brands. Camel Trophy, in which Turkey actively participated, is recognized as one of the most prestigious competitions in offroad and extreme sports categories. Thanks to the Turkish champions of the competition, the Camel Trophy has greatly influenced Turkish rally and off-road sports and culture. In this research, the content and scope of the Camel Trophy and the effects of the competition in Turkey during the time it was held will be mentioned. Various newspaper articles, articles, and blog posts were used in this study. In addition, people who took part in the Camel Trophy as cameramen, contestants, and reporters were interviewed. During the interview, questions were asked about what kind of competition the Camel Trophy was and the period in which the competition took place. With this study, it is aimed to clarify the importance of the Camel Trophy competition regarding the history, media, and off-road sports culture of Turkey.
