dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractÖzellikle Soğuk Savaş yıllarında tepe noktaya ulaşan temel bilim ve teknoloji rekabetine dahil olmak isteyen Türkiye’de atılan ilk somut adımlardan biri 1964’te Ankara’da “Fen Lisesi”nin kurulması olmuştur. Ankara’daki “Fen Lisesi” uzun süre ülkedeki tek fen lisesi olarak eğitim hayatına devam etmiştir. Daha sonrasında 1980’lerde Türkiye’de fen liselerinin aygınlaştırılmasını amaçlayan Fen Liseleri Projesi kapsamında kurulan fen liselerinin ilki olan İstanbul Atatürk Fen Lisesi; yıllar içinde önemli bilim insanları yetiştirmiş, Türk eğitimi için önemli bir okul hâline gelmiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractEspecially during the Cold War years, international science and technology competition reached its peak. Turkey also wanted to be included in this competition. One of the first concrete steps taken was the establishment of the “High School of Science” in Ankara in 1964. The “High School of Science” in Ankara continued its education life as the only high school of science in the country for a long time. Later, in the 1980s, the “High Schools of Science Project” was implemented, which aimed to increase the number of high schools of science in Turkey. Istanbul Atatürk High School of Science, the first science high school established in this context, has educated important scientists over the years, and it has become an important school for Turkish education.en_US
