dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractTürk müziğini, çağdaşlaştırmak ve geliştirmek amacıyla Atatürk’ün öncülüğünde Türk Müzik Devrimi gerçekleştirilir. Türkiye’deki eğitimli müzisyenlerin eksikliği sebebiyle ise yurtdışından Türkiye’ye başta Paul Hindemith olmak üzere bir sürü bilim adamı ve eğitimci çağrılır. Paul Hindemith’ten ise müzik eğitimcilerinde birini daha çağırması istenir. O da Eduard Zuckmayer’i çağırır. Eduard Zuckmayer 1936’da Türkiye’ye gelir. Türkiye’ye geldiğinde ilk önce Ankara’daki Müzik Öğretmen Okulu’nda koro ve piyano hocası olarak göreve başlar. 1938 yılında ise Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı’na ülkenin konservatuar ihtiyacında bahseder ve bu girişimle beraber Gazi Eğitim Enstitüsü’nün kurucularından biri olur. Bu süreç içerisinde de Türkiye’yi gezer ve batılı anlamda Türk müziğini Türk halkının kültürüne eklemlemeye çalışır. Bu projenin amacı; Eduard Zuckmayer’in Türk Müzik Devrimi’ne katkılarını inceleyip sonuçları objektif bir biçimde ortaya koymaktır.
dc.description.abstractTurkish Music Revolution is accomplished under the leadership of Atatürk to modernize and improve Turkish music. Due to the lack of trained musicians in Turkey, a lot of scientists and educators from abroad to Turkey invoked. Paul Hindemith is one of them. He is asked to invite one of the music educators. He called Eduard Zuckmayer and Zuckmayer came to Turkey in 1936. When he comes to Turkey first he started working as a piano teacher and choir teacher at the Music School in Ankara. In 1938, he spoke to the Ministry of National Education about the conservatory need of the country and with this initiative, he became one of the founders of the Gazi Education Institute. In this process, also toured many cities in Turkey and Zuckmayer tried to add contemporary music to the Turkish Culture. The main aim of this project is to examine the contribution of Eduard Zuckmayer to the Turkish Music Revolution and briefly desbribe the result with the readers.
