dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractTarihi incelendiğinde ulaşım amacına hizmet etmiş olan buz pateni, 18. yüzyılın ortalarında yeni bir anlam kazanmış ve bir spor dalı olarak kabul görmüştür. Amerika, Kanada ve Rusya’ nın uzun bir süredir söz sahibi olduğu bu spor, Türkiye’de medya yoluyla ilgi görmeye başlamıştır. Uzun bir süre televizyon ve gazetelerden ilgiyle takip edilse de bu spor, Türkiye’ye 1981 yılında ilk buz pateni pistinin Kurtuluş Parkı’nda açılmasıyla kazandırılmıştır. Türkiye’de buz pateninin spor olarak yaygınlaşmasına katkı sağlayan insanlardan biri Fehmi Tekelioğlu’dur. Tekelioğlu’nun yetişmesine katkı sağlayan sporculardan biri Timuçin Özbükücü’dür. Spor hayatına Kurtuluş Parkı'nda başlayan Timuçin Özbükücü kendini geliştirmiş ve 1991 yılında Türkiye’nin ilk milli buz pateni sporcularından birisi olmuştur. Antrenör, milli sporcu ve hakem ünvanlarına sahip olan Özbükücü bu sporun Türkiye’deki yolculuğuna tanık olmuş ve büyük katkı sağlamıştır. “Altın Kuğu” lakabıyla bilinen, başarılarıyla isminden çokça kez söz ettirmiş Naz Arıcı’nın antrenörüdür. Yakın zamana kadar Türkiye’de sporcusunun dahi bulunmadığı bu spor, imkanların gelişmesiyle beraber birçok başarılı ve yetenekli sporcuyu bünyesine kazandırmış ve kazandırmaya devam etmektedir.
dc.description.abstractWhen its background is examined, ice skating, which first appeared to satisfy transportation needs, shifted its definition in the mid-18th century and started to be seen as a sport. This sport, which America, Canada, and Russia have long dominated, began to attract attention in Turkey thanks to the media. Even though the sport has been followed through television and newspapers for a long time, it was introduced to Turkey with the opening of the first ice skating rink in Kurtuluş Park. Timuçin Özbükücü, who started his sports career in Kurtuluş Park, developed himself and became one of Turkey's first national ice skaters in 1991. Timuçin Özbükücü contributed significantly to the journey of ice skating by serving as a coach, national athlete, and referee. He is the coach of Naz Arıcı, also known as the "Golden Swan," who has made a name for herself with her successes. Ice skating, which Turkey had no athletes until recently, transformed with improvements in facilities and became a sports branch with skilled and successful athletes.
