dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract27 Mayıs ihtilali ve 12 Eylül ihtilali Türkiye siyasetinde dönüm noktalarıydı. Bu dönüm noktaları Türkiye demokrasisine ağır darbeler vururken değerli siyasetçiler Türkiye’ye iyi bir hizmet verebilmek için çalışmaya devam etti. Bu karışık dönemde siyasette aktif rol alan siyasetçilerden birisi de Haydar Koyuncu’ydu. Haydar Koyuncu siyasi hayatına 1960 yılında avukatlık mesleğini bırakarak başladı. İlerleyen süreçte 17. ve 18. dönem Konya milletvekilliği yapan Haydar Koyuncu bu süreçte ülkesine ve özellikle memleketi Konya’ya birçok hizmette bulundu. Bu araştırmada meclis tutanakları, gazete haberleri, Haydar Koyuncu’nun kişisel arşivinden edinilen kitaplar, Koyuncu’nun yakınlarıyla yapılan röportajlar ve akrabalarının blog yazıları kullanıldı. Araştırma, Haydar Koyuncu’nun siyasetteki amacı ve vizyonunun daha iyi anlaşılması amacıyla siyasi hayatının haricinde Koyuncu’nun çocukluğu, gençliği ve öğrenim hayatı, siyasetten önceki kısa süren avukatlık tecrübesi ve siyaset sonrasındaki hayatını da kapsamaktadır.en_US
dc.description.abstractMilitary coups of May 27th and September 12th hold great importance in Turkish political history. While these events damaged Turkish democracy severely, some politicians still worked hard to serve Turkey. Haydar Koyuncu was one of the politicians who were active in politics in this chaotic period. Koyuncu started his political career in 1960 after leaving his lawyer profession. In the following years, he served his country and especially his hometown as the 17th and 18th term Konya deputy. In this research, books obtained from Haydar Koyuncu’s personal archive, parliament records, interviews with Koyuncu’s relatives and friends, newspaper articles and blog articles were used. Apart from his political life, in order to better understand Haydar Koyuncu's purpose and vision in politics, the research covers Koyuncu's childhood, youth and educational life, his brief experience as a lawyer before politics and his life after politics.en_US
