Between 1968 and 1980, Turkey's political and social landscape was characterized by deep conflict and polarization. Military interventions interrupted democracy and led to the rise of leftist movements. Leftist activists faced intense state repression and the media reflected this situation through their ideological perspectives. The September 12, 1980 coup was a critical event in this period when political repression reached its peak. Zeki Kartal's story sheds light on the experiences of individuals involved in leftist movements, their migration from Turkey to Germany and their political activities in the diaspora. Kartal's testimony revealed how young people became politicized and how they reacted to repressive state policies. It sheds light on the social and political dynamics of Turkey before and after 1980.
