dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | en_US |

dc.description.abstract | 1938 yılında Seğmen ailesinin Eskişehir Sivrihisar’dan Ankara’ya göç etmesiyle bakkal olarak ticari hayata adım atan Seğmen Kardeşler A.ş. günümüze kadar gelişimini devam ettiren bir markadır. Cumhuriyet tarihine paralel olarak gelişen Seğmen, zaman içerisinde reçel, bal gibi ürünlerin evlerden çıkarak fabrikalarda üretilmesinin ve teknolojinin gelişmesiyle farklı teknikler uygulayarak bu ürünlerin çeşitlendirilmesinin öncülerinden biri olmuştur. Bu projede hayatta olan son kurucu dahil şirket bünyesindeki toplam dört üst düzey yönetici ile görüşülerek ve şirket arşivi ayrıntılı olarak incelenerek gerekli doküman ve fotoğraflar temin edilmiştir. Toplanılan verilere dayanarak Seğmen Reçelleri’nin kuruluş ve gelişim aşamaları, Ankara’nın ticaret hayatına katkıları, aile şirketi olmasının önemi, şirketin günümüzdeki hali ve yurtdışındaki ekonomik ilişkileri anlatılmıştır. Bu yazı aynı zamanda Seğmen’in kurulduğu yıllarda Ankara’daki yaşamı ve tatlı sektöründeki gelişimi göstermektedir. | en_US |
dc.description.abstract | In 1938 Seğmen Kardeşler A.ş. is brand which started its venture into the business world as a grocery store, with the migration of the Seğmen family from Eskişehir Sivrihisar to Ankara, and it has continued its growth until today. Seğmen, which has continued its growth alongside the history of the Republic, has been the forerunners of products like jam and honey leaving homemade production and starting industrial production, which has improved and variated alongside the implementation of different and new production techniques. In this project, various necessary documents and photographs have been acquired by perusing the company archives and interviewing four upper management personnel including the sole living member of the company’s founders. By referencing the gathered information, Seğmen Reçelleri’s foundation, evolution, its contributions to Ankara’s commercial life, its importance of being a family business, company’s current situation and its economical relations with foreign countries has been explained. This paper also contains information about life in Ankara and the evolution of dessert industry since Seğmen’s foundation. | en_US |
