dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST209) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

Saray Balyan ailesi tarafından tasarlanmış ve Abdülhalim Bey, Altunizade İsmail Zühtü ile Charles Séchan iç mimarisinde görev almıştır. Aynı zamanda hem Avrupa hem de Osmanlı esintisiyle inşa edilen saray, hem sosyal hem de diplomatik amaçlar için kullanılmıştır. Bu araştırma yazısı Dolmabahçe Sarayı’nın modern yapısı ve mimarisiyle sağladığı ve bu değişikliklerin sosyal ve diplomatik amaçlı kullanımını nasıl etkilediğinin kültürel ve sosyal döngüsünü incelemektedir.en_US
dc.description.abstractDolmabahçe Palace constructed under the order of Sultan Abdulmecid I was an extravagant architecture piece. Designed primarily by the effluent Balyan Family, Abdulhalim Bey and Altunizade Ismail Zuhtu with Charles Séchan responsible for the interior. It was used for diplomatic and social purposes with an architecture that was a mixture of both European and Ottoman style. This paper will study the cultural and social transforms that Dolmabahçe Palace conveyed through its modern structure and architecture and how these changes affected the social and diplomatic usages of the Dolmabahçe Palace.en_US
