dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract1920 de kurulmuş olan Türkiye Komünist Partisi, Marksist-Leninist ideolojileri benimsemiş ve varlığını günümüze kadar getirmiştir. Ancak Türkiye Komünist Partisi 100 yılı aşkın bir süredir aktif olmasına rağmen, yaptıkları faaliyetlere dair yeterli kaynak yoktur. Bu makalede Türkiye’deki komünizm hareketinden ve TKP’ nin 1960- 2000 yılları arasında Türkiye siyasetindeki yerinden bahsedilecektir. Daha detaylı bilgi vermek gerekirse, 1920 döneminde partinin nasıl kurulduğu, Komünizm ve dinamiklerinin ne olduğundan, soğuk savaş yıllarının Türkiye komünizmini nasıl etkilediğinden bahsedilecektir. Ayrıca siyasi çekişmelerin çok olduğu 1960’ lı yıllardaki TKP ve Türk solunun yükselişinden, nasıl bir yayılma politikası izlediklerinden, ardından 1980 darbesinde de ne gibi sonuçlarla karşılaştığına dair ve günümüzde nasıl faaliyetlerde bulundukları ile ilgili bir anlatı yapılacaktır.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe Communist Party of Turkey, which was founded in 1920, has adopted Marxist-Leninist ideologies and continued its existence to this day. However, even though the The Communist Party of Turkey has been active for over a hundred years, sources concerning their activities are limited. In this article, we will address the communist movement in Turkey and the TKP’s place in Turkish politics between 1960-2000. To further inform, we will talk about how the Party was founded in the 1920’s, what communism and its dynamics are, and how the Cold War period affected communism in Turkey. Moreover, we will discuss the rise of TKP and Turkish left wing after the 1960s when there were lots of political conflicts, their expansion policy, the results they faced during the 1980 coup d’état, and their current activities.en_US
